Senior Environmental Scientist

Base Salary: $88K-$115K
Job Type: Full-Time/Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Poznecki-Camarillo is seeking an experienced Sr. Environmental Scientist with waters of the U.S., report writing, and permitting experience to join our team. This position will oversee environmental aspects of projects, provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and inter-department and client coordination. Experience with waters of the U.S., including wetlands, delineations are required. The Sr. Environmental Scientist will also be responsible for coaching junior staff.  Poznecki-Camarillo has offices in the San Antonio and Austin area.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead and oversee environmental consulting efforts, including managing projects, schedules, and budgets to ensure deliverables meet company and client expectations
  • Lead and oversee all aspects of wetlands and other waters of the U.S. projects, including wetland and waters determinations, delineations, reporting, functional assessments, permitting, mitigation planning and design, and monitoring
  • Experience in specialty areas, including local wetlands inventories and Section 404/401 permitting
  • Write and review draft and final technical reports of findings, NEPA documents, and permitting documentation. As needed, be prepared to draft reports and plans for assessments, investigations, and delineations that document methods and analysis
  • Conduct technical reviews and make recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Coordinate agency reviews of wetland permit applications
  • Respond to technical/regulatory inquiries from federal, state, and local agencies and public and private organizations or individuals
  • Interact with project managers, colleagues, and the client before, during, and after project implementation
  • Mentor and coach junior-level staff regarding technical skills and project implementation
  • Assist in proposals, technical approaches, and fee estimates, and participate in presentations/interviews for the development and pursuit of new business
  • Consider/pursue opportunities that support the company’s objectives. Represent the company at conferences and professional association functions
  • Projects will be both long-term and short-term in duration and be of varying complexity. May perform field work in harsh environments

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, natural science, ecology, or related field

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification obtained through the Society of Wetland Scientist’s Professional Certification Program or demonstrated progress to obtaining PWS certification with the ability to be certified within a year
  • 10 years of direct experience in all aspects of wetlands and other waters of the U.S. projects, including wetland and waters determinations, delineations, reporting, functional assessments, permitting, mitigation planning and design, and monitoring
  • Substantial understanding of USACE (particularly Ft. Worth and Galveston districts) CWA Section 404 permitting process
  • Extensive working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and policies (e.g., NEPA, CWA, removal/fill permits, etc.)
  • Familiarity with basic engineering concepts; ability to translate schematics/plans with guidance
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong sense of time management and ability to prioritize and manage tasks on concurrent assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, well-written documents to present information understandably and persuasively about complex topics to clients, agencies, teaming partners, and other stakeholders
  • Positive attitude, flexible, and strategic thinker able to take on various tasks
  • Ability to work successfully independently and with a team
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with people in various roles with different leadership styles across all levels of the organization
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in varying weather conditions
  • Proficiency with GPS mobile units
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s Degree in the disciplines mentioned above
  • 12 years of experience in all aspects of wetlands and other waters of the U.S.
  • Previous experience in TxDOT consulting projects
  • Holds TxDOT pre-certifications for 2.3.1 (Wetland Delineation), 2.3.2 (Conditional/Functional Assessment), 2.4.1 (Nationwide Permit), 2.4.2 (Clean Water Act §404 Permits), and 2.4.3 (U.S. Coast Guard Permits)
  • ArcGIS experience is preferred

**Higher qualifications may merit higher placement and salary.

Working conditions are primarily in a mixed office and home-based setting with occasional requirements to operate a company vehicle and perform site visits.
