The Red Berry Mansion
Red Berry, an Arkansas native and World War I veteran who served for six years as a state representative and three as state senator, was an infamous and intriguing figure, said to have run illegal gaming operations out of his mansion’s basement, but managed to have charges against him overturned or dismissed. Under our on-call environmental contract for the City of San Antonio, PCI prepared the Environmental Assessment of the Red Berry Estate and surrounding property in 2018. As part of the studies, PCI prepared and conducted an 84-acre archaeological survey, tribal coordination with seven tribes, and recommended the Red Berry Estate as individually eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Fun Fact: The Red Berry Estate is known for its colorful past and hauntings. According to the archaeologists, while doing their field investigations, they definitely felt a “presence” watching over their shoulders.
