Poznecki-Camarillo (PCI) is looking for a Survey Technician to work under moderate supervision and be responsible for processing and performing QA/QC of field data, filing field notes and records, and drafting topographic, boundary, ALTA, and control surveys using CAD or OpenRoads/MicroStation. Additional duties include creating legal descriptions and plats, conducting research, and assisting in the preparation of field packets.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of field and office experience, with demonstrated knowledge of LiDAR and UAV technologies to support advanced geospatial data collection and processing

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Process field data (conventional, GPS and LiDAR data) using Trimble Business Center (TBC), or similar software.
  • Analyze field sketches, notes, and reference materials to determine optimal drafting approach with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare and revise plans, profiles, detailed drawings, and exhibits from redlines in accordance with company standards for various survey projects.
  • Create plats, design surveys, and topographic surveys based on client specifications, field data, and project requirements.
  • Perform advanced surveying calculations and analyze raw data to ensure mathematical closure and geometric accuracy.
  • Provide processed survey data for importing into Civil3d and/or MicroStation and prepare final deliverables, including grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, and corner records.
  • Conduct research of existing records – such as plats, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents – and maintain organized survey files and indexing systems.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating field crew assignments, preparing work orders and field packets, and arranging travel accommodations, as needed.
  • Compile existing record data to generate working base drawings for field use and process collected field data into final deliverables.
  • Perform QA/QC checks on field data to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, engineers, and client representatives to define scope, logistics, and survey strategy.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of field survey methodologies and procedures.

EDUCATION

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
  • 4 years of relevant work experience under the supervision of an RPLS may be accepted in lieu of education requirement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 4 years’ experience in Land Surveying, Lidar, and CAD design for transportation and land development projects.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Trimble Business Center.
  • Thorough knowledge and adherence to Surveyor ethics, surveying principles, and practices of surveying.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Strong sense of time management and ability to prioritize and manage tasks on concurrent assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or on a daily basis as changes occur in project need.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with people in various roles with different leadership styles.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

PREFERED REQUIREMENTS

  • 6 years’ experience in Land Surveying and CAD design
  • Experience with UVA, LiDAR, and Geospatial workflow equipment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
  • Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification or able to sit for the exam in the future
  • Previous experience in TxDOT (or other DOT) consulting engineering projects
  • Experience with OpenRoads
  • Experience with collaboration software (ProjectWise, Bluebeam, etc.)

Working conditions are primarily in a mixed office and home-based setting with occasional requirements to operate a company vehicle and perform site visits.
